WHEN IT COMES TO SHOULDER SURGERY TRUST A PRO

The shoulder is a crucial part of the human body— it allows us to bend, flex, reach, and rotate our arms. However, the shoulder is also prone to stress and overuse, especially through repetitive motions.

Often times, shoulder injuries are a result of a sports related injury, overuse, or a fall or degeneration of the tendons.

If you or a loved one are experiencing shoulder pain, contact us today and meet with one of our board-certified doctors.

WHAT'S CAUSING YOUR SHOULDER PAIN?

ROTATOR CUFF TEAR

Common Problems & Symptoms:

Common among athletes and laborers, a rotator cuff tear is a rupture of the tendons that stabilize the shoulder joint and are responsible for lifting and raising the arm.

You cannot always feel a rotator cuff tear, but symptoms can include:

  • Difficulty raising one’s arm
  • Pain or weakness in the shoulder
  • Clicking or popping of the shoulder joint

LABRAL TEAR (SLAP TEAR)

A labral tear is a lesion or tear of the soft tissue surrounding the shoulder socket. It can occur from excessive use, injury, or wear and tear.

It is usually accompanied by a typical set of symptoms which include:

  • Deep pain in the shoulder joint
  • Difficulty performing normal shoulder movements
  • Locking, popping, or “dead arm” sensations

DISLOCATION/ SEPARATION

Often the result of a trauma, a dislocation is when the ball of the shoulder joint is displaced from the socket. Before assessing further damage, a doctor will have to reset the joint to ensure proper placement.

This can result in:

GO WITH A HUDSON PRO

Treatment for shoulder injuries most often includes a combination of physical therapy, anti-inflammatory medication, and potential surgery.

At Hudson Pro Orthopaedics, we specialize in minimally-invasive procedures, such as shoulder arthroscopies, which allow us to operate effectively while reducing recovery time for our patients.

A shoulder arthroscopy is a procedure in which 2-3 minute incisions are made into the joint. A camera is then inserted through one of the openings so the doctor can view the area while operating through another incision. This procedure can be used to correct a variety of issues such as rotator cuff and labral tears. Recovery is usually several weeks, much less than a traditional open surgery.
