WHEN IT COMES TO KNEE SURGERY TRUST A PRO

Knee pain is one of the most common complaints of pain from patients. Whether pain strikes from an acute injury, such as from a sport or work activity, or has a slower onset from normal wear and tear, like arthritis, that increases throughout our lifetimes, knee pain is often a result of it being a weight-bearing joint.

Contact us today to meet with one of our experienced doctors or orthopaedic surgeons to assess your knee pain and offer treatments such as Platelet-Rich Plasma injections, knee replacement, or knee arthroscopy, to help ease or eliminate your pain.

WHAT'S CAUSING YOUR KNEE PAIN?

MENISCAL TEAR

Common Problems & Symptoms:

Meniscal tears are the most common occurring knee injuries. Tough and rubbery, the menisci are two wedge-shaped pieces of cartilage which act as a cushion between the thighbone and shinbone. A rupture of one of these, is known as a meniscal tear.

Symptoms include:

  • Difficulty walking/bearing weight
  • Swelling and tenderness of the knee
  • Pain in the knee joint: usually on the inside (medial), outside (lateral) or back of the knee.
  • Catching or locking of the knee joint.
  • Inability to fully extend or bend the knee joint.

ACL TEAR

Common Problems & Symptoms:

The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is one of the ligaments that connects the thigh bone to the shin bone and helps stabilize the knee joint. Athletes who participate in such sports as basketball, soccer, football, baseball, tennis, skiing, and other sports that require pivoting are especially vulnerable, as there is a great deal of sudden stopping.

Typical symptoms include:

  • Popping or snapping sound at the time of injury
  • Knee buckling and instability
  • Severe pain and inability to continue activity.
  • Rapid swelling.
  • Loss of range of motion

OSTEOARTHRITIS

Common Problems & Symptoms:

Due to constant use, knees are one of the most susceptible body parts to arthritis. Arthritis is a condition where cartilage deteriorates over time, causing pain, swelling, stiffness and instability of joints. Arthritis of the knee is particularly disruptive as it can limit a person’s activities and limits his or her lifestyle.

Symptoms of osteoarthritis include:

  • Pain that increases when you are active
  • Swelling
  • Feeling of warmth in the joint
  • Stiffness in the knee
  • Decreased mobility of the knee
  • Creaking, crackly sound that is heard when the knee moves

ADDITIONAL CAUSES OF KNEE PAIN

  • ACL Tear
  • Anterolateral Ligament Injury
  • Lateral Patellar Instability
  • Knee Arthritis
  • Multiple Knee Ligament Injuries
  • MCL Tear
  • Meniscus Tear
  • Patellar Tendonitis
  • PCL Injury
  • Quadriceps Tendon Rupture

GO WITH A HUDSON PRO

Injuries of the knee can be treated through surgical or non-surgical means.

Osteoarthritis, and other routine issues, can often be treated with conservative management – physical therapy and anti-inflammatory drugs.

At Hudson Pro, we have innovative treatments, such as Platelet-Rich Plasma Therapy, or PRP. This treatment involves injecting a patient’s own blood platelets into the injured area. The platelets can stimulate the healing process. For more severe injuries, our doctors are skilled in knee arthroscopies – minimally invasive procedures that allow them to repair and reconstruct damaged tissues.
